Hi all,

This is the first year my partner and I have been camping, we bought a Renault Traffic in March of this year and have had so much fun!  We want to be able to camp all year round but haven't got a clue about winter campsites.  We need to be able to plug in to power so if anyone has any ideas or can recommend any books that list all year round sites I would really appreciate it!

Thanks

Hello Maria, welcome to UKCS.  If you click on campsite search above, select the area you are interested in, then click advanced search, you can select sites open all year.  The sites details should tell you if they have electric hook-ups.  Good luck, have a great autumn and winter camping.

Hello,

We managed to camp through from last November, managing at least one weekend away each month.

We have a van conversion and tend to look for sites with hard standing and hookups.

We use a small fan heater for warmth, and find that there can be a few drafts from dashboard air vents (try and remember to close them) we also get small draft from side sliding door.

You may need to consider using propane (orange) rather than butane (blue) gas.

If your water tanks are external, be a bit wary of night temps below freezing point as they could potentially crack.

Caravan Club have some sites open all year, some close after new year, but they can get quite busy, we stayed at Moreton in March in March of this year and it was pretty full. Had a great time though and good weather.

On the whole we have really enjoyed camping through the winter as every where is much quieter, and it was a bit of a shock when we went in August and every where was busy, couldn't wait for september . The only down sides are the fact it goes dark so early so walks have to be carefully planned and most national trust properties (if thats your thing) close at the end of October.

Otherwise have a great time.

Thats some brilliant advice, with propane orange I am guessing you have to change the nossle over?  Or will it work by just putting the organe propane can on?  Sorry if this sounds niave, new to all of this!

Thanks heaps for all your advice though!!

Propane Bottles / Orange need the Orange Regulator Propane has less tendency to freeze so is ideal for winter use, Butane / Blue Bottles use the Blue Regulator

ive stayed in campsites or fields around North Yorkshire winter and summer using a Tent and had great fun, most memorable was sharing a field with a horse and 6ft of snow :)
