Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
knight stainforth near settle is a superb site-very clean and well organised-reasonably priced-ehu pitches if you want one-lovely short walks to the river and waterfalls( and nearby old pub).
there are also stunning places nearby at malham ( cove-tarn- goredale scar and janets foss)
North Yorkshire is a massive place, and the Dales are quite big too. It all depends which part you want to go to.
I prefer the southern dales and would go with hikamper and Knights, Stainforth, if there are a few of you. If you're on your own, try either the Riverside site or the Goredale site at Malham.
Just back from the Dales on Thursday after a few days at http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=1695. This is just off A65 about 5 miles from Settle, very quiet and well priced, only £4.25 per night per person. Great for malham, 3 peaks, gaping gill etc

Thought Helmsley was in the Yorkshire Moors? quite a distance from the dales?
Helmsley is on the edge of Rye-DALE so I would say it's part of the dales, about a 15 minute drive to the edge of the moors, Malton and Pickering. The Dales does cover a rather large area.
