Thank you all very much for your recommendations, please keep them coming.

I will try and buy the book The Reporter and Balliol suggested.  Balliol, please could you look up something within about 3 hours towing time from Manchester (any direction)?  Any further than 3 hours is a bit much for me and an 8 year old on our own as we're quite new at this.

The site we liked was Sandy Beach at Anglesey (next to Penrhyn).  The site isn't closing but the beachfront pitches have been sold to static owners.  I wouldn't want to be on the rest of the site.

  Thank you for going to the trouble of finding some sites for me.  I'm sorry they didn't appear.  Just noticed you are from Abingdon.  I used to live there. Worked at Cothill House boarding school.
