Having read the reviews, I am a little confused as to whether this site is a good one to visit - does anyone have any additional views?

Any advice very welcome

I've been telling them since 1996, everybody has their favourite tale of bloody minded wardens. The final straw for me was when my mother visited us with my grandfather who was eighty seven and the wardens refused to let her drive round the site to find our van and drop my grandfather off. They insisted that she park on the visitors car park and walk. Problem is it is the most perfectly sited site in the whole of the lakes and I yearn to go back there.

Do the C&CC know about this? well I sent a 3 page letter into them 3 years ago about one of their assistant wardens (oops we are supposed to call them holiday site managers)at Keswick and never even got a reply. So in my mind I dont think they want to know, or they don`t let on that they do know?

Hi

Iv'e done three seperate weeks camping on this site, and have never had a problem with the wardens, in fact the guys on there bikes which show you to your pitch, iv'e had a real laugh with, I asked to be on the main camping field not the annex because you get a great view from there, where the annex is surrounded by trees, its nearer to the toilets/showers and there nice pitches but I do like a view, and they've always given me a choice. Maybee bank holidays are a bit manic but we have always been in the school holidays, when its busy and never had a problem.

Only stayed there once. The wardens were a bit hitler, but did help us out with a secure parking space for our van (it had a lot of kart racing gear inside) while we camped next to M&D's caravan.

Managed 4 adults in a 2 berth caravan the night the rains came. Used the van with a long rope to pull car/caravan out of 2 foot of water!! The tent was a bit wet. :-)

My Brother and his family stayed here a couple of years back, my mum and dad decided to go up and meet them there for the day - Mum and dad arrived parked in the visitors car park and asked at reception if my brother had arrived yet. They said no he had not and my parents were not allowed on the site !

They then tried to call my brother but no one had signals on the mobiles, they were frantic with worry as they'd left hours earlier and my mum was imagining them in a pile up the M6. In the end my dad decided to stuff the wardens and went for a wander on the site - where he found the rest of the family all safely pitched up and waiting !! Thanks to the wardens on this site my mum had a very worrying time and they wasted half their day in the lakes waiting for the family to arrive when in fact they'd been there hours and the bl***dy useless wardens gave out duff info.

Lol. More happy "members" of the Camping and Caravanning "Club".

Writing as an ex member, I think if you are going to hand over £30 a year to be members of the "Club", why not use the real club - rallies and Temporary Holiday Sites - run by members for members, instead of giving yet more money to a commercial organisation that masquerades as a club.

I used this site last month during the school hols. My only dealings with the wardens was booking in then being shown to my pitch and that was that.

The site was full, but despite that it was quiet and peaceful in the evenings. we even had friends stay with us that I completely forgot to tell the wardens about !

Will I go again ? definately, as mentioned, the scenary is stunning and location is nigh on perfect.

If you don't mind being out of Keswick a little bit, Castlerigg Farm is a fantastic site.

my experience on the whole of c&c site wardens is in their favour. Had some arrogant stinkers as well as some really helpfull ones . Been to Scarborough club site about 8 times in the past 2 years and the wardens have always been fairly decent sorts with just one minor bad mark. Everyone has a bad day now and again though .Scarborough site is just 2 years old though(club owned) so perhaps they are not as entrenched in their practises as the older club sites yet!

We have been on several CC&C sites over the last 15 years and never have we had any cause to complain with any wardens, just the opositte in fact. Sooner use them than some of the other sites we have used.

this is a fabulous site in a beautiful location.if you want a holiday where you dont need to use your car this is it.

views from the site are stunning.  its on the banks of derwent water.  the supermarket is just a short walk away.  the town is the same .. there are loads of walks . or you can get the boat to take you around the lake get off where you want. there is a theatre not far away . you can hire boats. paddle fish. from the town there is cycle hire. a leisure centre for swimming plus tennis courts. the tourist information is a meeting place for anyone wanting guided walks. we did take our car one evening to go to a osprey location to see if we could see it. yes we did only a little but we saw it and red squirrels in the same area. children seemed very happy playing in the shallow water on the edge of the lake.

what else have i forgotten. oh yes you can get on a open top bus and use it like a hopper to get on and off where and when you like it took you around the other lakes. it was quite reasonable.

i dont think any one would not like it here there is so much to see and do. ypou just need the weather.

Well said Norah.

Only been once to the site and had a great time. No prob with the site wardens at all. Great location just as you described.. If you feel stressed at all I suggest you take a walk around Derwentwater to Friars Crag and just sit there and take sloooooooow deep breaths and enjoy the view. Wind down, loosen up and enjoy it.

Don
