Hi we are looking for a local site. Obviously not in Wigan but 1/2 - 3/4 hr drive from Wigan. We can often only get away for one night. So far we have been to Windy Harbour in bpool but it can be expensive at £25 a night and just booked in at Beacon fell, which hopefully we will use fairly regular. It would be nice to have 2 - 3 choices close by but fairly cheap. Doesn't need entertainment but a pub close by would be ideal for hubby and some grass or play area appreciated by my 4 and 11yr olds.
Any ideas or recommendations greatly appreciated.

try the royal umpire ,croston near chorley..just up the road from you. lovely site with a good park for the kids a big football pitch and two pubs ...one next door and one over the road...perfect!
Thanks Ang and Ken we are joining the camping and caravanning club, I think they will send us a list of sites so we can look on the list.
Thanks cathycu I've just had a quick look at the royal umpire web site it's close enough to us I will ring up for their prices and we will try it.

Donna, give Hallmore a try Jnc 35 M6 (north-bound), big field at the side for kids and the pubs only a 10 min stroll, might take a bit longer getting back though lol
Wyreside Lakes Fishery,in near Lancaster great for a weekend break. Lots of space a small pub with reasonable priced resturant Went on a friday last minute staff great. Park for the kids and only 45 mins from home we are in Leigh. if you have a tent you have the pick of a great huge field with loads of room for ball games

That site search chorleydave was referring to is the one on ukcs btw! Just go to campsite search, type in an area and hey presto! All will be revealed. It's excellent.
As are the site reviews too and if you don't believe me just take a peep in the November issue of Practical Caravan Magazine, WE'RE mentioned, (well not us personally, but ukcs is!)
And can anybody tell me why that magazine is out two months earlier than the month it's for, I'll never understand. At this rate, we'll be getting them for January 2007 soon!
