Just returned from a very wet weekend at coniston hall in the Lake district, Luckily we camped on the high ground and avoided a flooded tent like some other poor souls who were seen trying to dry out their sleeping bags the following morning!

All in all we had a great trip, despite the weather we were was very snug inside our tents. And kept in high spirits. The site was pretty much empty, although I can see how it  would be a nightmare in high season. Staff not very friendly. Showers were nice and warm.

We are quite new to this camping lark, only camped at music festivals and DOE trips before, getting quite addicted now. I love the lake district but was wondering where else in the country could provide great views, good walking and friendly people.

By the way I love this site!

Just off the top of my head ...

the Peak District,  Wales,  Scotland, Northumberland - Kielder Water area is spectacular - had a few days there in September.

So many places .... too few holidays!!

I am coming round to the idea of many long weekends instead of a long two week holiday. I like the idea of scotland or southern ireland. I have visited both but not camped. I know the lake district very well so feel quite comftable walking there, I will have to brush up on my map reading skills before venturing elsewhere I think!

Hi lillou

We stayed at coniston hall last septemer and it threw it down but we still had a great time too, luckly we had just bought our trailer tent and was just using the cabin part so was off the ground, as there was big puddles everywhere.

Camping is a great hobby, so many places to see, so many walks to do, fresh air, Beer, Company, Id pick one the places bigmoney2 had suggested and do a campsite search and read the reviews till one comes up you fancy, oh and the yorkshire dales are great too.

We do a lot of short trips, due to work and limited holidays. We set ourselves a target of one trip away each month since becoming free to travel more last November and have managed it. Never thought I would camp (all be it in the relative luxury of a small campervan) in December and January! We have had the best weather in March (at Moreton in Marsh), September and October this year. We've visited loads of places that are a bit too far to go for a day trip and feel we can get two days out almost for the price of one as we save on petrol by staying overnight rather than travelling back home. There are lots of web sites detailing walks, we usually have something in mind, but sometimes make it up as we go along. Not had a bad trip yet, and can also use weekends away to recky an area for a longer trip in the future.

By the way where abouts are you from? I might be able to recommend a few places.

Jules

I live in essex, so anywhere with hills is going to be quite a drive, Thinking of a trip to devon soon, maybe some walking combined with a trip to the eden project, any good sites in the area?

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=3111

It was this one, Croft farm, we were up on the hilly field on our own. It was a bit windy the toilet tent blew away while we were at Eden, so moved to the lower area on our second night.

We wlked into Eden as you get in cheaper if you arrive on foot or bike.
