Hi,

This is my first post so please bear with me. We started camping last summer and this, but missed the great outdoors so much, when it was too damp to camp (it rhymes!), that we hired a caravan over the October half term.

From that moment we were hooked , and we picked up our first caravan last Thursday. We stayed at the Boroughbridge Camping & Caravan Club Site this weekend and had a great time.

How is availability- has anyone struggled to go away when they want- is summer really bad or is it just a question of planning?

Also, we  seem to see so many sites in many areas as we travel, where are they advertised- do many of you just drive to where you want to go and hope for the best!

Would love to get to know you all and hear your views!

We don't tend to book that far in advance but I would always ring or e-mail the site rather than just turning up. Not quite sure why as we do that all the time in France!!! Not sure about the CC&C but I expect its not much different from the CC, their sites are very popular and often booked up in advance particularly for weekends. We are fortunate that our weekends start on a Sunday so we tend to arrive as other are going. For next year perhaps you should work out where you would like to go and research how many sites are in that area, between them you should be able to find a pitch. The exception to all this is Bank Holiday weekends where it seems essential to book, especially Easter. Good luck and I hope you continue to enjoy your vanning.

most of either of the most populer club sites get booked up quite early especially at weekends, some of the less popular ones you should be ok.
if you,re thiking of traveling to the south west at school holiday time, anywhere near the coast will be getting full "NOW". inland and you can leave it till a lot later to book.
note...
traveling to the south west in summer at a weekend is a nightmare on the roads, try to plan to travel midweek

Hi Diamond,  welcome to the best site on the net.

forgive me if I am telling you what you already know but here goes. Have you looked on the camp site search for areas you may like to visit, this will tell you of sites in that area and they often have a link to the sites web site if they have one. There are also the u.k.c.s. meets all around the country which you will find at the top , events/ meets, haven't been on any yet but I know that you would be made welcome.

As for booking sites it all depends  if you are a planner or you don't mind taking pot luck. I will never leave it to luck as I like to know what I'm getting and that there is sure to be a pitch even if it is a small site in the middle of nowhere. I also like to research the are before I go.

With caravanning so popular now all the sites get full at bank holls, even xmas and New year so you miss out if you don't book.

         Hope this all helps Janx
