i  love the look of this site, but i have been told the midges are unbarable. i am thinking of going to the area a year next easter.

theres no harm in planning ahead. dont forget they get a lot of rain up there. i am trying to convince myself that they have better weather in the spring. and there might be a little snow on the hills. and i know that they dont have midges in the spring.

The sites at Luss and Millarochy (the site on the east side of Loch Lomond) are both great sites with easy access to the loch plus stunning views.

The only downside to Luss is the noise from the passing traffic virtually every hour of the day.

we're thinking about end of july - prime midge season. we usually have a week at woodlands in devon, but thought we'd give it a miss this year.

now we've got the TT i shoulg be able to at least take the kids bikes and have a generally relaxing good time.

are the lochs safe to swim?

great news, sound like the loch is safe. may have to get some inflatables.

what chances of getting a loch side pitch though?

We were there 3 years ago and enjoyed our stay despite some wet weather (we went in May) During our stay there was a light aircraft fitted with floats that was interesting to watch taking off and landing. In the evenings it was moored up by rope anchored to the beach at Luss, not a sight we`d ever come across before.

We went for lots of scenic/sight seeing drives and tried to plan circular routes using  narrow lanes (mind you, the A roads are narrow enough, some of them with passing places)

As an alternative consider Ardgartan C&CC site on the banks of Loch Long, its not much further past Luss (maybe 15 miles or so) and it has lots of footpaths and cycle tracks (vehicle free) adjacent to the site.

If you do go in July be careful your trip does not clash with the Loch Lomond Open golf tourament (that's if your not going to spectate). I can't be sure of the date for it but the area gets very busy and a standtill is the norm. Also if you go there anytime of the year don't leave the site on a bank holiday monday!! as all the traffic heading back into Glasow backs up from Stonnymalon round-a-bout at Balloch right up to near Tarbet (15 miles)

If you are leaving on a B/H leave at the crack of dawn, I owned a static 3 miles north of Luss at Inverbeg for 7 years and learned this the hard way!
