We had a great week here at Cove Park, Watermillock, Ullswater,  this summer. It's up in the hills but from some of the pitches you do get  a glimpse of Ullswater over the top of the trees. Its a well kept site, nice play area and family-friendly, and quiet after 11pm. They keep strictly to the number of pitches so there is no over-crowding.

The wardens are helpful and gave us some great advice about local walks and I had the impression that they would not tolerate any troublesome behaviour, which suits me fine. The only possible down side is that there was not a pub within walking distance, (unless you are sufficiently fit to handle the very steep walk back up from the main road by the lakeside!) We would certainly return to Cove park. Check out the reviews.

There is another site directly opposite this one called the Quiet Site, which was more expensive but had more facilities such as an on-site bar.

I have been to many places in the lakes, and my favourite has to be "The Croft" at Hawkeshead

The village is beautiful and the campsite is even better.

I would recommend Ullswater aswell or even windermere, went to both places this year and it was great, could go on nice walks, plenty of things to do on the lakes.

Have to agree with you there, The Croft is fab!!. We've been staying in a variety of their caravans, barns and flats over the last 20 years or so!.

The Barr family who run it are brilliant, very friendly and helpful.

The site is next to the village so not really in the hills or near a lake, but great even so.

We always do Keswick - camping or static van as we do family visits to Workington as well as walking so we find it easy to fit in a days out and visit the family in the evening without too much driving.
Seems wherever you go in the Lakes you will never get a bad view.
Beats Weston-super-Mare or Blackpool any day.

Best view we have found by a mile so far, is the one from Castlerigg FARM - not hall, in Keswick.

Not sure when you are looking to go though...

Have fun

Chris

We've been to Castlerigg Hall - get a static there as we take wrinklies, two older teens (and a girlfriend)who have to lie down all the time, and need to take everything to do with tv and games stations - even the laptop. Castlerigg suits us because of the facilities - seven adults using a caravan bathroom is no joke.
All the sites round keswick have something to offer, its sometimes difficult to chose.

our favourite site is also the croft at hawkshead, great friendly site just a stones throw from the village and it's wonderful pubs, walk a mile or so east or west and your in a different world, scenery is superb. it's worth the while to take your car and head for ulverston, on the way you can find 'the anglers arms' public house, what a fantastic meal they serve.

cheers brin

saying that tho' the beauty of the lakes is there are far more better sites than there aren't...........does that sound right?
