We live near St Helens, Merseyside and are looking for a site from the first bank holiday in May, must be child friendly and with in an hour/hour 1/2 away. Any suggestions? Have already done The Plassy and Glencote. We do like a good standard of cleanliness and require EHU.

Thanks

Karende

Brother often stays at Willowbank in Southport.

Failing that there's a few in North Wales (use camp site search above).  Again he stays at one in Caerarvon.  This year we stayed at Clwyd View at Rhuddlan.  It was OK but bit noisy from the nearby road and we only did an overnighter to try out new tent

For high standards and cleanliness it would be hard to beat Oxon Touring Park at Shrewsbury.

I believe this is members only and as far as I know they don't take tents.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.

The Riverside at Southport is great for a weekend, Kids Club, Bar, Chippy, BUT and a BIG BUT, nothing is open during the day, but there is a playpark, walks, and the leisure lakes is only a mile away for a walk or Southport a car ride away, we went last year, the entertainement for kids was great, there is also a nightclub (but we did not go) we thought the site was clean, well maintained, plenty of security, but some old kids must of got bored and decided to stick toilet rollls down the loos, they where soon sorted out when reported to reception, clean and ready to use.  Mind you take a carrier bagn into the shower to keep your clothes dry.

Although we've not tried Abbey Farm, it is on our list as it comes highly recommended by one of the dads at my children's school, who often goes there at weekends.   (We didn't camp much last season due to accident.)

Be careful with Riverside, tents are treated as second class citizens.   First time we camped their, although we  felt that caravans and even trailer tents got a better deal, the pitch was decent.  Second time - we were at a rally, placed well away from the caravans etc, on a poorly drained, unmowen field.  Even when the tenters checked in they felt inferior beings.   Check out some of the reviews by those listing tents as their unit.
