Hi,

I know I am early for this but here goes. My hubby and I had never really thought about going away over Christmas until last week. We got our new motorhome and wanted to try it out. We were amazed at how busy the local CC site was near to us. That got us thinking, and we have decided that for next Christmas we want to go away.

Here is what we are looking for, 100 or so miles from North East Eng, Campsite needs to take dogs (we have 3), A nearby good pub is a must within walking distance from site and where we could book a xmas lunch. A village or town within walking distance would also be great.

Our plan is to try out any suggestions over the year so that we can book for next Christmas.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks

Firstly search for sites that are open either 12 or 11 months, and then refine the search to the area you are particularly interested in.  The see which take dogs, that will probably limit the sites a lot.

Some parks will also offer either a christmas meal or let you know where you can go for one.

Its never to early to think about next year as we already have bookings for Sept 06!!

Could try Rowntree Park at York, not sure about the dogs tho'. but I would guess that RP is getting booked up already. You can get great bacon butties if you walk out the back entrance and turn right at the main road !!

If you are in the C & CC they have rallies over Christmas and New Year in some regions.  If you join now you'll have some nice friends by Christmas which will then add to the enjoyment.

Were off with our DA on the 29.12.05 for 4 nights over the New Year and can't wait.

Hi, have you thought of  Alwinton up past Rothbury.  The site in campsite reviews.

The scenery is fantastic, and they have a new restaurant.  The static caravan owners are lovely as are the wardens.  Was also told that they have christmas parties up there.  And they take dogs, plenty of walks for them

One of the best New Year's we ever had was with the Perle Leda Owners club about 15 years ago.  It was a rally held at a private school near Rampton, and we had use of the school facilities including the hall.  I wonder if any UKCS members were on that rally?

Last new year we used a site at Coldingham (about 75 miles north of Newcastle) called Crossland Caravan Park. It's just on the edge of the village so there are pubs within a short walk (we ate in one of them and the food was pretty good - can't recall it's name though). It has dog walking areas mentioned on the website plus the lovely beach isn't far.

Have you considered Chatsworth club site in Derbyshire - Not sure how far it would be from you, but it may be worth travelling a bit farther - We went there 2 years ago and it it's worth a visit - The site is within a walled garden of Chatsworth House - It's lit up like Oxford Street at Xmas - You have a key for the gate to get onto the Estate with lots of walking with the dogs - The village of Baslow is a few minutes walk away with several pubs and hotels for Xmas lunch - Book early.

Regards.
