We were new to camping last year and have learnt from our mistakes in choosing a site.  We suffered unruly kids running riot until midnight, a small pitch too close to the next tent, right under a pylon.  Nice. 

What I want is a site where I can pitch my tent where I want in a woodland/rugged setting, where people don't want home from home with dvd players and tvs and want to party all night.  I want peace and quiet to escape from it all.

Apart from climbing a mountain, can anyone recommend some nice sites. 

Anywhere in Britain.

I'm not a misery, I just like it quiet!

Orchard Caravan and Camping Site It has many trees, alot planted by the owners of the site and if you want Alan will allow you to camp in the woods at the bottom of the site. Although the facillities are basic the friendliness and the beauty outway the small number of showers(2).

If you want a positive experince camping Alan's site is a good place to start, any number of people on here can recommend this site as Alan has helped in hosting a couple of UKCS rallies which everyone enjoyed immensley.

If you want mains hookup (like us) you can pitch down near the house and station, if you want really wild, go up the other end alongside the river and you might not see anyone all week!

Try Blackberry wood campsite near Ditchling in East Sussex. not been there myself, but if you have a look on the camp site search section the reviews are very good. camping in woodland with a real fire as well as shower facilities. Sounds just what you want!

Camusdarach near Arisaig on the west coast of Scotland or the ex-Camping and Caravanning club site at Machrahanish. Neither are particularily woodlandy, but both near rugged (and exceptionally scenic) coastlines. I've used both in the height of summer and neither were at all noisy. The Machrahanish one in particular is very peaceful.

We passed one at Applecross bay in Sutherland - deer nudging around the site with its own bakery (not the deer!), anyone been there and sampled the showers?
