Hi all, we just started camping last year and stayed fairly local, this year hoping to spread our wings(just a little) and go to take the kids to see Alnwick Castle at Whit . Can anyone recommend a site??

Cheers

Hi, my family has had a static caravan a Waren Mill near Bamburgh for 30 years. The campsite there looks great - we use the showers as they're excellent. I'm always envious when I walk thru the campsite on an evening as all the kids are playing on the centre field while the adults are cooking/eating/relaxing around the sides.

Proctor Steads at Craster is where I would go. Its quiet, clean and near enough the beach to walk there if you wanted to.

C & CC site at Beadnell Bay - across the road from the sea.  Walking distance to local shops and eating places.  Bit breezy when the wind blows as there is no shelter apart from the stone walls.  Fantastic location.  No electricity and no caravans here (local bye-laws won't let C & CC have any there, apart from the site managers).

Northumberland is a very underrated county - we love it, but don't manage to go often enough.

We have camped at warren mill quite a few times over the last 15 years and its fine foe tenting, went to stop at budle bay campsite ,which is quite near there ,but got put off by all the hens wandering around through the place and ended up at warren mill again.

The caravaning and camping club site dunstan hill is nicely placed for dunstanburgh castle as well(my favorite castle ) but have to book there in advance as it gets busy.

Have to agree that Northumberland is a totally  underated county in the tourism stakes, with all its stunningly rugged coastline, castles and the rest ,but that is probably a good thing for those of us who go there!

We stayed near here in september. My recommendation would be Procter Steads, a lovely little site and probably the nearest to Alnwick.

The caravaning and camping club site dunstan hill is not too far from procter steads and looked nice although we didn't stay.

Also stayed at Waren Mill which was nice and had a pub serving food onsite, there are 2 parts to the site a static part and a tourer part which are quite seperate. Stayed at Budle bay, but wouldn't recommend it.

Banburgh and Dunstanburgh castles are both worth a visit.
