Whilst I too find it disgusting to see the fag butts outside pubs, clubs, restaurants, work places, hospital grounds, buildings etc, etc, I do feel that this has more to do with the rather stupid government ruling against providing some place for smokers to go, if they wish to persue their insistance of the right to smoke if they wish.

Giving them a proper air conditioned place/room/whatever to smoke if they wish, would be cleaner for our environment and sensible for society.

Ofcourse parliament has never been known to consider these two qualities very highly.

In banning smoking from public buildings, they have got some of the legislation correct.
In not providing an alternative, they have got it wrong and this will eventually have to be corrected.

I am no politician & i am not familiar with all the ins and outs of parliament and all that kind of thing but my opinion is that the government are the biggest hypochrites out and they make all these financial cut backs in the NHS resulting in insufficient care for patients dying or suffering from smoking related diseases yet they make loads of money on taxes from the sale of tobacco. where is the logic in that? they ban smoking in public buildings but to me they need to do a lot more hands on things to help people kick the habit & should be doing more to help those who really want to quit smoking, its an addiction & as such the addict needs just as much help as any other drug addict does. what do others think & i ask both smokers & non smokers the same question & do some of you smokers want more help in order to quit? I think the NHS (especially here in Scotland) has an excellent record for getting folks off the fags.

Their councilled classes and anti smoking pills and NRT treatments, all on Prescription (which will soon be free up here) are all first class and there really is no reason why anyone who wants to chuck it, cannot get all the help that he or she needs.

Even Champix the new wonder drug to help folks stop smoking and costing £400, is available on prescrition.

No, the NHS is not the problem. The problems relating to smoking are the wishy washy half assed rules that Parliament pass, hoping to satisfy the ASH Brigade and end up causing more harm than good.

3 out of every 4 night clubs here in Scotland have gone to the wall since the smoking ban came in. This not only effects the staff of these premises. but also the groups & entertainers that used to make a living playing the gigs there.

Those that have never smoked are not going to suddenly start going to pubs, night clubs and restaurants, just because they are now smoke free.

Those that do enjoy a smoke with their alcohol, are simply staying at home.

Really, the only major change is the number of licenced premises that are now going out of business.
