I'm booked into a Caravan Site in Edale, Derbyshire.  I know Edale quite well from walking trips where we used to have trouble getting a coach to it.  We could not get a coach over and around the sharp bends at Townhead Bridge (near Hope) and the steep road that goes over from the Mam Tor side was not ideal either.

Was wondering which way people went with a caravan to get into Edale.  I fancy the Townhead Bridge way but need a little reassurance that I can get a 2ft (inc A-frame) caravan and car over the bridge and the right angled corner that follows it.

Thanks,

Dale

Our favourite area.  We usually take our van to either Castleton or Hope as its too long to negotiate down the lanes to Edale.  However, caravans do go there, maybe just check with the site, but its not a busy road so if you did meet up with someone chances are they will be able to pull over and let you pass.

I dont think the MamTor road is open to traffic any more.

No I don't think it is either, having said that I think you can go through Castleton and round the hills in a big loop into Edale, but don't hold me to that as I am probably totally wrong, just trying to visualise from when we're walking along the peaks.  I do think that the main road in is from Hope?

Edale, memories, camping in tents, going Friday night straight from work and coming home Sunday. ( always had sunday lunch at the pub )

Last time must be 10 years ago, the area is wonderful,

We used the campsite at the top passed the visitors centre, although this was a very narrow road, the post office at the very top across from the pub was owned by Mr + Mrs Cooper, and they had the campsite at the back, many caravans used this,

Went into Castleton for the caves, and shopping, and walked from the campsite to Jacobs ladder,  I remeber also the Visitors centre would put on during the day film shows of the nature and walks in the area,

Have a wonderful time,
