Looking for sites along the top of Scotland.  Once we get back from Orkney we plan to continue west towards Cape Wrath.  Any suggestions for sites in the far NW?

The Sango Sands site at Durness is very good although if you're there during the Durness Highland Games it can be very noisy.

Another site I'd recommend a bit further down the west coast is at Scourie.

We used both of those in a trip round the west and north of Scotland and Orkney last summer.

Thanks for that.  I think the Sango Sands one must be where we stopped in 1998 last time we were up there.  The wind was so strong we had to hitch the van onto the car to help keep it from shaking so much!!   And we stayed at Scourie in 1972 on our first trip up there, so that is probably the same site too.

A couple of others we've used:

C&CC site at Inverewe Gardens (Poolewe) - very nicely located site a short walk from the gardens and from Poolewe itself.

Ardmair Point - This is a commercial site just to the north of Ullapool and it has fabulous views from nearly every pitch.

Thanks!  Yes, we are CC members so  plan to stay over at Dunnet Bay before getting the ferry.  Last time we stayed in Wick, but that CC site is closed now anyway.

Used the C&CC one at Inverewe twice, found it really expensive last time as we are not members.  Thinking of joining so we get a bigger selection of sites, and cheaper site fees!!

The site at Ardmair point sounds good, may well give it a try.

We stayed at the Dunnet Bay site before our Orkney ferry last year (I didn't mention it because it's in the NE rather than the NW!) and it's a nice location although the site is more like a C&CC one than CC. I think there are plans to upgrade it to normal CC standards soon though.

Hi,  We stayed at Morvich 3 years ago.  It is about 16 miles south of Kyle of Lochalsh, a beautiful site but very isolated.  If you go there, make sure you are well stocked up!!  Good luck and enjoy your holiday.  Ethel
