Easier to do with a caravan, but when we go down we book a CC site for the Friday night, past Bodmin, and do the rest on Saturday Morning.  Still heavy traffic but a lot less distance involved.

we are going to polmanter in cornwall this summer for 3 weeks our start day is a sunday will this be better for travelling. we have never been this far before and i can say i am not looking forward to that bit. we are travelling from lincoln any tips,

Have u been there before Kate? Have u dogs? sand are u bothered about a&£%^$& of owners???? The site is nice and clean will give it that, the views out to see are spectacular but the owners is an a"£$ especially as ur meant to keep your dog on a lead at all times but he can let his nasty jack russell type off and bother other dogs. We wont be going back thats for sure. But enjoy your stay anyway

take it by your post that you won'y be going back to polmanter.  no we have not got a dog just 3 kids 2 of them teenagers (thats another story) sorry you had a bad experience with the owners dog. we have paid our deposit now just hope fingers crossed it will be ok for us.

Nope we wont EVER be going back to Pollmanter but that was just a bad experience we had. Dont let it spoli your holiday im sure ull enjoy your time their its such a lovely and clean site just the owners dog and the owner but enjoy it anyway - u can usually get on your pitch about 11am if this helps

Looks like i either travel 9am friday and get to Exeter and stay overnight in travelodge at £60and complete my journey early Sat morning or chance a long drive through the night setting off at midnight. arriving Cornwall approx 8am but tired.

I've travelled to various places in Cornwall from Halifax. We tend to set of about midnight (Fri/Sat morning), travel down to Bristol and stop of at the 24 hour asda (think its Jnc 17) get something to eat - and also a 24 hour petrol station here much cheaper then the services.

Fill up, then of again to `Polyphant` on the A30... nice layby here of the main road with plenty of space for caravans, toilets and a little cafe  which opens at about 4am. Couple of hours sleep, then only another hour/hour-n-half down the Cornwall  

All coming to Cornwall need to be aware that there are major road improvements underway on A30 at the end of the Bodmin bypass, at Innis Down Roundabout.  The road from the roundabout to Indian Queens (turn off for Newquay) is being dualled. Works due to be completed for spring 2007, and will be a godsend for everyone (not least us poor Cornsih).  However, thsi summer we can expect to see delays probably longer than usual.

There is also a improvement underway at Merrymeet roundabout on A30, 15miles west of Exeter.   This improvement, also scheduled to finish early 2007, will effectively remove the roundabout, and reduce current holdups.  Its not pretty now, so expect delays when the holidays starty

On the subject of Polmanter - we stay there and love it.  The owners are really good people, and Bryar is not nasty.  She loves playing with our Westie, Mac, and is no trouble.  Each to their own, of course.
