This summer I,d like to book two weeks off work and tour the Lake District and some of Scotland (never been before!). I know we won,t be able to cover much of Scotland but I,m looking for camp-sites that have facilities to keep an 11yr old lad occupied! has anybody else covered this sort of trip and can offer any advise on which camp-sites to stay at: also: should I allow a couple of nights for each site or longer do you think? We,re starting out from Birmingham so our first stop will be somewhere in the Lake District (hopefully!). Any advise will be appreciated.
Thanks.
BTW: we,re not members of the C&C club.

hi how about stopping of at kendal is a nice place or you could stop of at penrith have alook on the camp site pages we have stayed at the kendal campingand caravan club site
scotland if you dont want to go to far try strathclyde country park jun 5 of m 74 as a good theme park and nice loch plenty to do in thee area and you could visit lochlomond for the day lovley scenery up there
as botty says strathclyde country park just of the m74 is not bad with a theme park next door and is only 20 mins from glasgow and 40 mins from edinburgh and is pretty good for access to most areas of scotland apart from north
Or next place further north to stop would be Stirling which has a CC site at blair drummond next door to safari park and still within easy each of major cities and sites
Try Great Langdale NT campsite it's great and you can take him up Scarfell Pike , Englands highest point.
Then off to Fort William, great drive through Glen Coe then take him up Ben Nevis, Scotland and Britain's highest point. Loch Ness is just up the road.
Then all you got to do is go to Snowden and you've seen the three peaks!

I'd start off in Southern Scotland at Brighouse Bay - see reviews - lovely site and plenty for all ages. Make your way up to Fort William to the Ben Nevis site. aaahhhhh
Well done Feeble Cat, at last someone with some sense!! (sorry everybody else).
jaksB, if you're going to stop off in the Lake District first, then do yourself a favour and turn left when you cross the border. Take the A75, and keep going till you come to the signpost for Kirkcudbright (after you pass Dumfries and Castle Douglas). The only problem you'll have with your 11 year old at Brighouse Bay, is that he'll refuse to leave!!
Fort William etc?? Fine, but if you're planning on a week in the Lakes, then spend the other week at Brighouse. Dumfires and Galloway is a lovely area, and leave Fort William etc till another time when you can spend at least 2 weeks north of the border.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure!
