I'm looking for a place to go camping/sailing. Ideally a campsite either with a sailing lake, or on the banks of a larger lake. It doesn't have to be all that big as we're only talking about taking the kids out in a Mirror and
Optimist.

Does anyone know of anywhere that they can recommend?

We're a small group (last year we were about 25 in 10 tents with 4 boats and a canoe) and split between Oxford and Essex.

Pretty much anywhere in the UK would be OK except, since we're only talking about weekends, the very extemeties. (e.g. Cornwall, Scotland, Lake district, North Wales etc.)

Cheers

Rob

Coniston Hall is right on the west bank of Coniston along with Park Coppice in the Lake district. Both have launching areas.

Both are listed in the Campsite reviews.

Pete

Thanks for the suggestion, and the welcome. I suspect that for a W/E (especially towing) that Coniston is a little too far, but thanks all the same.

Rob

What about a reservoir? There's the Queen Mary Reservoir in Ashford, near Staines. There's a camp site in Laleham right on the river Thames a few miles up the road and another one a couple of miles further on in chertsey.

Moppy

Thanks for the suggestions. What we're really after is a lake with camping right next to it. So that we can be in and out of the boats during the day.

Cheers

Rob

There is a campsite on Hayling Island that has a kind of boating lake looking thing just apart from the sea and it is right next to the sea. Not open sea but the kind of inlet that is almost dry at low tide but deep enough to sail in high tide I would imagine. I think its called fishermans creek or something like that. Very nice looking site when I walked around it and that area is very well known for its sailing with Chichester very near by.   Have a look in the review on this site.

Neelie

Thanks for that, I actually found it when I searched for "Hayling", and the name was close enough ;-)

It looks very good.

Cheers
