I am looking for a basic campsite on the Dorset coast, somewhere between Swanage and Lyme Regis. Does anyone have details of a site that will be open in April and that does not allow caravans (static or otherwise)? There seem to be lots of large 'family friendly' sites in the south west, but I want to find a place with few facilities (a basic shower and toilet block is fine, but no swimming pool, playground, on site chip shop, etc).

Sea Barn Farm near Weymouth is open now and is tents only. There is a small (quiet) playground on one corner of the site but otherwise it fits your requrements perfectly.
The facilities are old and basic but the views are FANTASTIC!
We like this site as it is very quiet and peaceful (but those in the party who want to use a bar or pool are allowed to walk to West Fleet Farm just across the road and use their facilities)
Hi silver scoop, we go to this area on a regular basis ...I can not think of a tent only site but Seadown at charmouth has a mixture of tourers, a few statics and tents...its really nice, peacefull good ammenities and no club look at ukcampsite listing its there. Ithink this the best we can come up with.
Silver Scoop, if you want a basic campsite and I think this one is Tents ONLY, then look at Osmington Corner, their address can be found on this site under the campsite search link, we looked at this when we were camping but the wife said it was too basic and no good for the children, so we ended up down the small road on the Osmington Mills site, hope this helps,
best regards, Martin

Burnbake is based nr Corfe about 5/10 mins drive outside of Swanage. Lovely remote tent only site. Basic loo block, woodland or grass pitches. Its just turn up and pitch where you like then someone comes around in the evening to collect payment. There is a small shop selling absolute basics open for an hour or 2 most days in high season. The play area mentioned isnt really one. Its a tyre attached to a rope hanging from a tree. Lovely back to basics camping.
Thanks for the tip emvid1 Burnbake looks just the sort of site we look for... Wanted to go somewhere new for May..this could be it. Maybe see you at burnbake silverscoop.
