Having been deprived of my Easter camping as my children have different holidays! I thought we'd go away May bank holiday weekend. I'm thinking of the Peaks,as it's quite near home, but am having difficulty finding a suitable campsite - don't want anywhere too busy but, on the other hand, with four children I do appreciate enough (clean) showers and loos and ample hot water! Also some sort of playground if possible. I've had a trawl through the reviews and a lot of sites seem to have reviews along the lines of fabulous scenery, but poor facilities - I'd like both, if possible! We have stayed at Newlands, and I quite liked it but would like to try somewhere different, if possible. Any ideas?

Loosehill at Castleton is a nice site good showers etc not sure about the playground though as only me and the wife stayed there when we went to collect our new van from glossop, the site is one of the caravan club sites not sure if it takes tents, hope this is some help, got rid of the blue face for you anyway

Highfields Farm at Ashbourne has lovely clean toilets and showers.  Big playground and a swimming pool (restricted opening hours).  This site does get busy tho.  Next door to the Tissington Trail for cycling too.

They both look exactly right - the Losehill one seems quite expensive though, as we're just in a tent - I'll give them a ring and see if they charge differently for tents. The Highfields Farm one's website seems to be down - directing me to a German map site? But I've found pictures of it elsewhere and it looks good. Thanks for your help - this gives me something to go on.

I don't think losehill accepts tents as its a caravan club site, it is a lovely site though, featured on my website. Their are loads of sites that accept tents on the way into castleton, i think the place is called Hope where the campsites are, i'll go and check.

Just remembered plenty of sites in Edale, also next door to castleton.

Hi Phil -I think the Losehill on takes tents -says so on the website, anyway. There are loads of sites in Edale but a bit worried they'll be full of groups of young people coming in on the train and also, after checking on here there seems to be a lack of showers and so on in most of them. I'm going to have a gander at your website now! Thanks.

Laneside in Hope has nearly all your requirements, the only thing missing is the children's play area. Lots of hot water, showers etc and it's not too large. Quite peaceful, although if you pitch near the road it's a bit busy. We've just got back from our first trailer tent excursion and stayed in Derbyshire. The other site we went to was Callow Top, near Ashbourne, which has all the facilities you might need but is huge and for us, was far too busy and noisy. It has a pool, clubhouse, pub, cafe etc on site and a good children's play area (and an arcade full of slot machines) but when we were there there were a lot of large family groups (they don't allow teenage groups apparently, but you wouldn't know it!) with mobs of kids running amok and pelting around on bikes.

I've had a look at the Laneside campsite and it also looks good - we have a three year old and I see the camping field is next to a river - it says it's shallow and safe but did you happen to notice what it was like? We keep a close eye on her but i'm a bit wary about water.
