Hi all, just spent a pleasant easter at Hollands wood in the New Forest, while there I noticed a planning aplication on the entrance gate and was quite suprised at what I read, basically the site will be halved from 600 pictches to 300, one of the facility blocks is to be lost and the site installed with electric hook ups, the area freed up will be returned to forest. On speaking to one of the wardens it seems the site does not meet EEC regulations and requires updating, I beleive the site will also have marked pitches rather than the randon set up as now, Out of curiousty I cycled through Roundhill site close by and a similar application is pending as well, again picthes reduced to 285, It seems this season will run much the same but as of next year the bottom line is that availabilty in the New Forest will be affectively halved, i.e half those people camping this weekend won't have a place to pitch from next year. Judging how busy it was I think this will be a drastic loss both to us campers as well as the village of Brockenhurst. This may not be the final/full story but I wonder if anyone has any more info or thoughts on the situation.

I believe this has been on the cards for some time now.

Did you know the C&CC have bought all Forest Holidays sites?  Apparently they will ugrade the loo blocks to their own standards but they will be run the same.

TBH, I was more concerned about the prices being in line with C&CC sites as they are so much more expensive, have to wait and see!

i was concerned that yet again freedom of choice is being eroded soon there will be no basic sites left for proper campers

Yep, the Nanny State will continue to poke it's nose and regulate, regulate, regulate... until we have no freedom left at all.

My concern besides the ones raised since my posting was that the sites seem to be being halved in capacity, part of the planning application is to return the unsued camping area back to natural forest land, there are few if any independant sites in the heart of the forest and I think once these sites are reduced there will be little chance of them ever expanding in the future especially as the area is now a national park. I think its a great shame that such a nice area will potentially become very difficult to get into in the future. I hope I am wrong but I fear the worst!!
