I think they are all listed at http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=arran&by=town , reviews for a couple of them which may help whilst you're waiting for comments

Cheers

Ian

We stayed on arran last May. There are 3 campsites, in the south is seal shore, great place, almost on the beach with the Kildonan Hotel next door, there was a folk group on when we were their, singing about Liverpool, which is where we had come from.

In the north is Lochranza, which has a golf course attached, is surrounded by mountains and has a distilary a few yards up the road. There is a retaurant in Lochranza but we didn't try it.

There is also a site that also has statics, but looked quite nice on the east coast called Middleton caravan and camping park, we didn't stay here so can't comment but isn't far from Lamlash where there is a  pub and you can get a passenger ferry to Holy Island. There is a CC CL, which was full on our visit just up the road at Ardlui and a C&CC site at Bridgend cottages, Shiskine. We stayed at this one and had the field to ourselves. The owner works during the day so was a bit hard to get hold of.

Hi Little Jenm

We stayed at Seal Shore about 4 years ago for about 5 nights with our twin-axle 'van.  We were returning from our holidays  mainly spent on the Kintyre peninsula.  We caught the boat to Lochranza from Claonaig on Kintyre.  Lochranza is a magically beautiful place with its castle right on the beach.  Lovely when approaching from the sea.  We looked at and considered staying at the Lochranza site buta but it is a bit inland and we prefer sea views.

We, therefore, chose Seal Shore.  I would endorse all that others have said on the review board.  A lovely spot right on the beach. We had an electric hook-up and as the tents and caravans did not seem to  be segregated I'm sure you could too.  The site was quite full when we were there in August.  The hotel next door is very handy.

We toured the coast of  island by car.  It is very beautiful.  The nearby cheese making "factory" was very interesting.  In Lochranza we fed a deer eating on the beach and visited the castle.  Brodrick is an interesting place with a good Co-op supermarket.  There is, also, a lovely picnic area just north of Brodrick near the castle.  We finished off our visit with a final fish supper from the fish and chip shop in Brodrick as we waited queued for the ferry across to Ardrossan.  That short sea trip made a pleasant end to our Scottish holiday.

Typing this brings back many happy memories - I'm sure you'll have a lovely time if you decide to go.

Happy hols!!

Tim

Thanks for your comments. Both sites look good, I am a bit swayed by the sea views but we haven't made our minds up yet. I am excited just at the thought of going. We are planning to go in June so not long to wait!

littlejen.

This info is almost 10 years out of date but fo nostalgic reasons - here goes. I've been camping and back packing for 40 years but the second time with kids and frame tent was on Arran. We arrived in heavy rain and chickened out the first night and stayed in a b&b on the S.W. coast. The coast was the smelliest place I've ever been (rotting seaweed). The next day improved so we moved to Middleton Caravan Site. Good location but strange site. There were 2 sinks for washing pots in a small room - both sinks had h & c taps but one hot tap had been 'locked' off - apparently people had been using too much hot water ???

The toilet blockwas new and v. good but closed at 10pm - you had to use what looked like an old cow shed.

The site was clean and tidy and the Islanders were great. (The camping shop lent me a gas hob because we had frgotten ours)  Enjoy your trip

Hi, i took a wee notion after reading posts to go to Arran at the end of May as although I live near where you get the ferry I don't often go across and have never camped there.  2 adults, car and caravan £138 to cross - no wonder scottish tourism gets a battering at these prices - I'm afraid on principal i won't be going with caravan - how can they justify those prices?  for a couple of days it makes for an expensive break!  Calmac - shame on you!
