Hi Folks

Wife, Myself and Max the collie are looking for a peaceful site in NE for a few days break at the end of May/beginning of June, after the Bank Holiday.

We like peaceful sites preferably with sea or river views.  We don't need clubhouse, bar or such facilities but would like an EHU.  We are happy to stay on basic CL type sites although we would prefer an electric hookup.  Our van is a twin-ax 7.36 metres long but our 4x4 can cope with most types of site terrain.

I have spent a lot of time reading the reviews but would appreciate further comments

Thanks in anticipation

Tim

Hi Tim and Cary

There is quite a good post a little further down about the Northumberland Coast.  I am sure you will get lots of ideas from it.

Have a good time

as a resident of whitley bay, it's nice enough, but there's got to be at least a squillion* sites better than the one at old hartley.

*accurate figure.

Recently stayed at Old Hartley and thought it was an excellent site, the CC site at Berwick on Tweed also has sea views and is handy for Holy Island (Lindisfarne) and the Farne Islands

Sometimes a little rain must fall before you reach a rainbow.

The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won't wait while you finish the work.

We stayed at Dunstan Hill c&c club, lovely walks to the fab beach. Very quite when we went, but believe its popular.

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things.

Dunstanburgh castle is well worth a visit while in the area ,park at craster and walk along the coastal path ,my favorite castle that !

The Caravan Club have a tiny site at Seaton Sluice, sea views on 3 sides, beautiful!
See if they have space.

Thanks for all these suggestions folk but unfortunately they're all booked up for when we were hoping to go.  Our 18 year old son suffers from a recurring illness and so we are not able to book up a long way in advance.  We have to ensure that he is likely to be well enough to be left alone.

MORE SUGGESTIONS PLEASE.  Lake or river views are another preference.  The only facilities we would like are an EHU, a water tap  and somewhere to empty the loo!

Thanks in anticipation

Tim

Hi - sorry me again.

I've had West Kyloe Farm and Proctors Steads in Craster suggested.  Does anyone have any  recent info on these 2 sites (I've checked the reviews but West Kyloe only has one)

Thanks again

Tim

Proctor Steads is really nice, the shower block is old and you have to pay 20p each time, but they are very very clean. The owners have always been really friendly when we've been there. A friend of mine was just there last Bank Holiday and she loved it. The site has hook ups and its a lovely walk into Craster.

Riverside Park in Ashington is next to a River, its quite nice, it has a great playpark and not far away from Asda etc too. The pitches are set out individually with a little hedge around each one.

There used to be a site in Wooler called Riverside (I think) it was a Haven or some such site, right on the River and had a swimmming pool.

Sorry I can't think of anymore right now.

There was also a nice little site at Belford not far off A1 near seahouses(about 9 years since I have been but its more than likely still there) it was quiet but  being more or less in the village you could go to one (or all in my case !) of the 3 or 4 pubs for a drink and a meal, few shops there as well.

Had a quick lool in the c&c club big sites book  bluebell farm is the name of the place  I was on about I think  postcode NE70 7QE

come to think of it I am not sure what the facilities were like there it was that long ago, but they cant of been too bad I suppose, I cant remember !

Thanks to everyone who posted.

We have got a pitch at Proctors Steads, Caister for 7 nights. No sea views but only a short walk away.

A few other sites we came across which sounded like us seaview lovers' types of sites were:

West Kyloe, Belford, full up (BSB)

North Farm, Embleton Sea view but unsure if the do EHUs (BSB)

Bluebell Farm, Belord again unclear about EHUs (BSB)

Brock Mill Farm, unfortunately full up (CC)

Beachcomber House, Goswick - full up. Man said mainly a tent site (BSB)

(BSB = Camping & Caravan Big Sites Book) (CC = Caravan Club handbook)

Beadnell Links and Marshall Meadows Berwick both no longer take tourers

Hope these may be of use to some others looking for sites in this area in the future.

Thanks again for the help everyone who posted.

Happy 'vanning to you all

Best wishes

Tim
