We are off to the Lake District at the end of this month and wondered if anyone knew of a peacful site in that area. we are looking to go near Windemere, but it doesn't have to be on the doorstep.
We would only want toilets, showers, grass and tress on site and nothing else really (apart from some other campers maybe).
Thanks Mike

If the weekend you want is the BH weekend then I would book something now as most sites in the Lakes are booked for BH's weeks, if not months in advance and the one thing the Lakes isnt during a holiday weekend is peaceful. Even the smallest sites with little facilities packs them in. We have stopped going to the Lakes during peak times as the campsites pack you in wall to wall and the roads are just car parks.
Yes, it WAS BH weekend we WERE going. However, you have managed to put us off going to the lakes, so does anyone know of a peaceful site in Wales near to Haverfordwest?
Thanks for saving us hours in traffic and being cramped in a site. Mike

Sorry if I've put you off Mike but the Lakes is definately somewhere to save for the off peak times. Its just so beautiful that it attracts thousands and thousands and you do spend most of your time in a traffic jam.
Pembrokeshire is a great choice we were down there at Easter for the first time and fell in love with the area and intend to make many more trips. It was Easter but never got crowded and the roads were a dream. There is a lovely site almost on the beach at Newgale which is just a few miles frm Haverfordwest. We didnt stay there as we were in a static but passed it many times and it is in such a beautiful setting we plan to use it one day. Cant help you with the name though but Newgale is small and there was only the one site.
We went to Traffords Caravan Site last July. It is 7 miles outside Keswick. Quiet and peaceful. Some caravans, with a great big field for tents and outdoor games. Hookups available for tents. Good facilities and very cheap.
We booked at the last minute and were surprised to get in. Thoroughly recommended for a last minute break.

Haven't been for four years now but The Quiet Site was good. Has a bar but can be a bit sloping depending on where you are pitched. Agree with Magicaly it can be very busy at Bank Holidays, we always went Tues to Fri, it was a bit more peaceful then.
Hi, can't recommend Hill of Oakes highly enough - quiet, picturesque, amongst the trees on the banks of Lake Windermere 10 minutes drive from bowness on windermere. a hidden gem!
HI, we travel to lakes often and our fav sites are , Castlerigghall is lovely in Keswick, we found Fluscowood a bit smelly especially on a hot day due to its location near a landfill site, although apart from this is a nice site. Pooley bridge is a nightmare on a bank holiday, you are lucky if you can find anywhere to eat out because everywhere is full, and cheapest site in pb around about £25!
