Hello,

Hoping to camp in the Lake District in August. We want to go to one of the National Trust sites, but have found out they don't take bookings and operate on a first come first served basis. Has anyone had experience of this? ie. are we likey to be turned away, by which time everywhere else will be booked up! Realise its a bit of a silly time to go, but its the only time we can.

we went last year with our tent and had to be there for a certain time to get on - we arrived an hour and a half early and there was a queue of about 10 in front of us - by the time came to get on the queue was down the lane.  Worth leaving plenty of time for getting on but well worth it - lovely sites and well looked after.  Lowwray i think it was forget my head if it was screwed on!!

Low Wray is a super place.  We stayed there on our first trip out with the kids when we returned to see how we like camping WITH kids, after a break, about 15 years ago.  We camped in trees near the edge of Lake - beautiful.  The kids were instant converts and we  have never looked back.  All the kids are now grown up and independent campers - the fight over who is going to borrow our tents.  Our daughter I notice has a tent listed on her wedding present list, marrying in July.  On the downside, however, of now being caravanners is that they don't take those there.  Same problem with Shell Island - no 'vans allowed.

Regards

Tim

Hi, we came across Hill of Oaks in the lakes by chance last year and loved it so much we are going back this year.  Not a national trust site I don't think but a very beautiful, well-kept site.   Sits amongst the trees at Lake Windermere so has a very natural foresty feeling.  coudnt recommend it highly enough - a gem! (no clubs, pubs etc - just as I like it)
