Hi all, we have just joined as we are newbies to the delights of camping. We would like some advise, is there a quick way to find out about campsites that are on the coast, i.e with direct access to the beach. Thanks for your help in advance.

Chris

Hi,

If you use the 'campsite search' facility (above), you can specify an area and it will bring up all the sites in the area and also shows how near/far they are from various facilities. There is also and 'advanced' search facility where you can include more specific requirements. Have fun!

Hi Chrisay59

Welcome to tthe site.  As has already been said thre are some excellent review in the campsite search section.

I'd, also, recommend this new book.  It has a lot of the type of sites you are looking for in Wales.  You can read my review here.

Try this one in the Gower.  It is at Port Eynon, there is a lovely beach which is accessed direct from the campsite.  Port Eynon has a few cafes, 2-3 shops and a PUB!!! - tends to get very busy during peak times but excellent atmosphere.  We love this site.

Hi I'll Second the recom for Carreglwyd on the Gower, see post above,.  We've got a review on there.   Picturesque village with lovely beach.  A few shops and a super chip shop overlooking the beach.

Shell Island in near Barmouth is, also super .  A peninsula caught off at high tide it has everything.  Pub/restaurant, food shop, games room, harbour, superb beaches, great views.  You can camp anywhere you fancy as long as not too near anyone else.  We can't go anymore as we have graduated to a caravan and they don't take them.  :Lots of reviews for Shell Island on campsite search.

Happy camping

Trust the reviews on this site! We always use the search, but only book the ones we like the reviews from.

I went to Carreglwyd on the Gower last year and will definitely return this year. The site was fine and the facilities were adequate, but the location was fantastic. Don’t bother wasting your time trying to find a better beach because you wont.

The Gower is lovely and there is loads to do. Carregwyd is well away from civilisation, so you’ll have to drive out, but that’s no bad thing because if you don't you'll miss out on a lot.

This was my first foray into Wales and it wont be my last.

For the record – I didn’t like the pub in Part Eynon (the Ship, I think).

Brian Leahy's new book is definitely worth a look for this sort of request. There are quite a few listings for Wales but on flicking through it the ones that stand out are Bron-Y-Wendon Caravan Park, Aberafon Camp Site, Cae-Du and Trevayne Caravan Park.

Hi all.  Will also note that Carreglwyd is a fantastic site if you don't mind roughing it a bit.  The location is fabulous, right next to the beach, the facilities on site are a little uncared for, but I can guarantee a brilliant break.  We go there every weeken all summer with our two young children and we are yet to have a bad weekend.

Kelly
