I intend going to either ashurst or hollands wood or near lyndhurst area with tent and bikes. Does anyone know then best camp sites near forest (in the forest) cycle routes, or a resource where decent cycle routes can be downloaded for the area. I tried a couple of cycle websites and the information is vague to sat the least. Thanks.

I have a New Forest Cycle Route brochure, you could buy one in the local area.  There are purpose built tracks, £500 fine if you are caught 'off road' so to speak.

If you have little ones, there is a great traffic free route out of Roundhill, on unused roads, past a model aeroplane field which they would love.

TBH, I wouldn't recommend cycling from Ashurst as its main roads before you get into the Forest as its right on the edge of the forest.  However if you do go there, pitch to the right of the site as there is a railway line VERY close

Although we've never had bikes with us from what I recall Hollands Wood is ideal for cycling as there are routes in different directions and some are completely off road. There are several bike hire shops in Brockenhurst which is very nearby. I have a leaflet from these guys who are based in Burley www.forestleisurecycling.co.uk and that suggests a few routes.

Hope this helps

Simon

We hired bikes from www.countrylanes.co.uk they are based in brockenhurst, they provided us with cycle route maps. I'm sure they sold them too.
