Sounds a really dumb question but having never been to the St Ives / Hayle area before, here goes.....
Are there any main supermarkets (Asda, Sains, Tesco etc etc etc) in this area (or in the A30 area on the way down), we want one for our 'main' shop of the holiday and although we could do it at home before we set off we'd prefer getting it just before we pitch so that we can get stuff fresh.... any advice would be appreciated
(we'll be using the local shops eg bakers etc when we're down there so we're not just looking to fill the multinationals pockets.....)

Tesco is in Penzance, at the end near the heliport.
The nearest Asda is in Falmouth or St Austell.
Philps do lovely pasties, or if you fancy a drive along the coast road to Portreath (views fantastic and you can park up along the cliffs) the Pasty Shop in Portreath sells lovely pasties and cakes.
there is a small tesco on the outskirts of St.Ives, as well. But must admit when we stayed in Lelant ( near ST Ives) we went to the big one in Penzance.

On the outskirts of Penzance theres a Morrisons and then theres a Tescos in St Ives. (Not right in the centre but accessable enough if your coming on the main rd from Hayle its on ur left on the first mini roundabout after u have gone through Lelant)
Hi curtlyb, as everyone else say's there is a Lidl on the right as you go into Hayle further along there is a Co-op supermarket opposite the surf shop in Copperhouse, it sells everything as major supermarkets. If you go through Hayle past Philps pastie shop as Kimmie mentioned there is a Spar shop just under the arches in Foundry. Also a good butcher just past the spar shop Peter Hampsons that does homemade pasties as well as cooked meats. You wont starve around Hayle.

The Tesco's is in Carbis Bay, just before you get to St Ives. There's also a very good Co-Op on the old A30 in Hayle. Don't go round the by-pass, take the main road into Hayle.
Hiya,
Pool /Camborne area is closer to Hayle than Penzance & as Mini says there is a huge Tesco extra in Pool next to the market where big W used to be also a Morrisons just up the road. my sister lives in Hayle & tells me they are building a Marks & Sparks on land that used to be rugby ground (also Next etc apparently) .

I hope they don't turn the place into a shoppers paradise - its busy enough as it is. Its OK having a decent supermarket but I love toing into Truro and Falmouth for shops, and Penszance is nicefor an afternoon.
