Hi

I need a camp site that is a reasonable distance from home, South London. Am prepared to travel to Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and maybe even Dorset.

My problem is OH will be returning home for at least two days during the trip, leaving me to cope with 4 hyper kids on my own.

Would like a camp site with....

close to a beach, walking distance as I don't drive.

Club house and swimming pool.

And reasonable rates as well

Am i asking too much?

Have been searching but feel am going round in circles,

I found two site that match my requirments...

Warners farm Selsey... v pricey and reviews not that great. But to be honest the price is putting me off. They wanted £38 for 6 of us per night this week.

Warden Springs Isle of Shepey. Has everything I want, although the beach is  more mud than sand ( receptionist words not mine) But apprently Leysdown beach is sand and a 10 min walk. They nly want £120 for all 6 of us for nine nights, so really reasonable. But there's no reviews for the site. Am reluctant to book, in case it turns out rubbish and I'm stuck there on my own with the kids going mad LOL

Can anyone recomend a good site with my requirements?

Shelli

Freshwater has an outdoor pool (or it used to - haven't been there for years) but not indoor. A big clubhouse too, fish and chip bar, restaurant etc. etc. Right on the beach but beware though that the stretch of beach that it's on is not suitable for children as it shelves away very steeply and there can be a very strong undercurrents. It has taken the lives of both children and adults in recent years. OK if you just want to paddle or fish (but not both at the same time!!!) but please don't trust it for swimming in. Better to drive a little futher along the coast and go to Charmouth (West) or Weymouth (East) for shallower water without the undertows. Apart from the beach safety I've heard lots of good reports about Freshwater although as it's only 5 miles from home have never thought about camping there!!!!!

Added later - just noticed that you don't drive so my comment about heading to Charmouth or Weymouth seems a bit silly now. There is a coastal bus service that would get you to Weymouth from the top of Freshwater site but if it was just you with the 3 little ones and a dog plus beach gear then you'd have to be pretty brave to bus it!!!! Why not look at reviews of Weymouth sites as there's lots to do in the town and long stretches of sandy beach to keep the kids amused - not sure if dogs allowed on beaches there in the summer - perhaps only on certain areas of it?

Try Marlie Farm at New Romney or New Beach just along the road at Dymchurch. Both within easy reach from you and seem to meet your criteria....Mick

Thnaks Guys

will look at Freshwater, might be ok on the beach as although they can all swim, they rarely do more than paddle in the sea.

Mick

will have a lok at Marlie and New Beach as well

Many thanks

Fruity miss... you seem to have lost one my kids and gained me a dog PMSL

Fooey

Was just thinking how great freshwater looked and how it fitted the bill perfectly.... BUT the pitches at Freshwater are too small for our tent

Marlie farm and New beach look ok, no prices on their website (same company own them) hate places that don't list their prices ... and can see no restrictions on tent sizes so will call tomorrow

thanks again

Hi

Warden Bay beach is only like mud during the winter.... my kids (i also have 4) love the beech there when the tide is out there is plenty of sand and you also get the beech to yourselves. There are no facilites at that end of the beach so no Mum can we have an ice cream or can we go to the amusements. but leysdown is really only a 10 min walk.  Sorry cant tell you about warden springs as i stay at the best hotel in town my parents house (sorry if you read this mum)

ukbull

thnaks for that info. I might bite the bullet and book, esp as i think £120 for 9 nights over bank hol is very good price.

Am waiting for Marlie and New beach to send prices lists before i make up my mind.

But its good to have some one who know the area.

Hi You should def check out New Beach, excelent place and just over the road from a fantastic beach, We've just returned from a weekend BH at Sheerness holiday park on the island, that was only ten pnd a night with hook up, but it depends on what you are used to, New beach is a bit more money but worth it i think,
