Have you tried the Caravan and Camping club's certified sites?  Don't know if you need to be a member.  They are generally small and basic I believe.

Hi there, you sound like my kind of camper.  I find with 3 kids if you go to places that have pools, icecreams and amusements you'll be bankrupt in a week.  Unfortunately we're in the south west so i don't know of any sites near to you.  How far are you from mid wales, there are some fantastic places there.

Hi, Maybe Gibralter Farm at Silverdale nr Carnforth will be just over an hour away, junct. 35 off the M6, maybe 10 miles from there.  It is a farm site in a beautiful place, it has got busier over the years, but is truly loved by campers and caravaners alike.  It has basic toilets, showers and sinks, big camping field, beautiful walks, up hill side through woods, down to the beach.

Its worth a look.

Shirley
