The Peak District is great for getting away from it all and not a great distance from where you are. We know cos we are from Burton as well!

We spend time at Fenny Bentley, just outside Ashbourne at a site called Highfields Farm. Our girls love it there. There is a park, an indoor swimming pool a little shop and the site is situated alongside the Tissington Trail which is great for walks and bike riding.

Its not to far to have a ride out to have a look around to see if you fancy it either. Just follow the A515 to Buxton and look out for the camping sign on the Buxton side of Fenny Bentley. If you go past the Blue Bell pub then you have gone past it. By the way, The Blue Bell, fantastic food!

Hope that helps

Hi claire, we are very close to you and would recommend beehive farm at rosliston for a first outing. Nice big area to pitch in, Animal farm onsite to visit, and a nice big field to play in. Plus it's only local if you have any problems..or if you wanted to go a little further try peak gateway at ashbourne, they have indoor and outdoor play areas good facilities and still not too far

Click here for beehive farm details

hope tthis helps

Claire,

have you tried the campsite search on here? I have used it a lot especially the reviews and it is really helpful in narrowing down sites that have the facilities that you feel you need, wherever you go in Derbyshire it will be great - not that I am biaised or anything

Jane

Just come back from Derbyshire. Fantastic tourist attractions to visit- would recommend staying around Matlock/ or Castleton as all the fun days out are around this area. I stayed around Glossop and found I had to travel a lot.

Laneside campsite in hope is a great base for exploring the peak district.Castleton and hathersage are a couple of miles away and the derwent valley with its three reservoirs are close by too.

Have a look on the camp site search there are loads of good and varied sites in Derbyshire, thats the beauty of it , you can find farm sites with basic facilities or sites with swimming pools and pubs, you can't go far wrong there.
