Hello everyone,

I'm fairly new to camping and am looking for personal recommendations on any wooded campsites in england.

I cannot take much exposure to direct sun and particularly with a tent I require good shade throughout as much of the day as possible. Many sites I've visited  only have the odd tree or two around the edge but this is not enough for me.

I'd prefer sites with Deciduous trees - basic facilites are fine - shower, toilets & washing up.

Thankyou

ps Not the new forest !

Have a look here.

If you scroll down past the first few which are in the new forest and Scotland, you'll see plenty more dotted around the country.

Look at the Forestry Commission sites some you camp in the woodland itself that might well suit you.

It's got to be Blackberry Wood!

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=4663

Each pitch is in a clearing in the woods. Absolutely gorgeous site! Campfires encouraged.

Only downside is that it work out expensive for a large group, or a party with several tents - £5 per tent and £5 per person age 11 or over and £3.50 (I think?) for children. If you are just a couple in one tent then £15 a night for the perfect setting isn't too bad.

Rothiemurchus campsite in the Cairngorms always you to camp in the wood.

Postern Hill near Marlborough - you can get under the trees.

Ruthern Valley near Bodmin - you can camp in the trees if you wish to.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who likes camping among trees! Why are so many campsites like football fields, devoid of any greenery?

I love woodland camping too !!

Wareham forest in Dorset is one of our favourites,  the site is in the forest with forest walks/tracks directly from your pitch.  Clean facilities and tidy site, also not far from the coast if you fancy a trip to the beach.
