Can anyone recommend sites in the New Forest (NOT Sandy Balls please)? I know there are plenty in the camp site search listings but wondered if any were particular favourites. Want something peaceful!

Have just been to Ashurst and Aldridge Hill with our two kids - how good are these sites - ponies walking around and at Aldridge Hill there's a stream running through the middle so take your wellies!  Ashurst was busy - it was half term - you can bike to Brockenhurst off road from Aldridge Hill and there's a bike trail right from Ashurst.

There's also a couple of pubs within walking distance from Ashurst.

Give the forest sites a go - they're great!  Oh and really cheap!

HI

Alot depends on whether you have your own loo or not and what time of year  you are going.

Longbeech is a good basic spot. peaceful with ponies wandering free.(DONT leave any food in your tent or they will help themselves!!) Theres no EHU there.

Setthorns is lovely but again there are no loos and it can get busy.

Holmsley has all facilities and is quite big. Out of season you should find it an ideal spot.

Dependant on when you plan to visit, most forestry commision sites have quiet corners to pitch up in.

Hope this is of help.

My favourite is Setthorns, it was so quiet it felt like we were the only ones there and you get a big pitch

Hi all, I am also looking for a good site in the new forest. We have very basic needs like, toilets & showers, washing up area. No EHU. I have 2 children ages 3 & 5(nearly 6!). We just want a nice peaceful place with no dogs (3 year old is petrified of them, and last year dogs made her life hell on a camp site in Norfolk)

Don't want one of the 'park' holidays, ie, swimming pool, bar, entertainment etc
Too many sites listed without any detail, so I'm getting really confused.............

Every site bar one in the New Forest has plenty of reviews and details, should make it easier to choose one

We usually stay at Ashurst, which is a Forest Holidays campsite. Log onto http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=forest+hol&by=sitename for more information of campsites in the New Forest.

If you do decide to go to Ashurst be aware of the railway line when you pick your pitch! There is a wonderful Bangladeshi restaurant and a pub within about 5 mins walk.

If you want peaceful i wouldn't advise Holmsley or Ashurst, both are fairly large and can get very busy and noisy.

I agree with Loopy. both Ashurst and Holmsley can get very busy and noisy at the height of the season.

Best to stick to the smaller Forestry commision sites for peace and quiet.

Look up Harrow Wood. thought not IN the forest it is in a nice village close by.
