Hi

I have just spoke to a friend of mine and she is trying to find somewhere near Kendal or Windermere for a 3 night stay in August. They are staying in a tent with EHU with a little boy (aged 2) and are struggling to find a site that takes tents, isnt too expensive with toilets and showers. Does anybody know of any suitable sites? I suggested Limefitt and Winderemere club site both of which work out over £20 a night. Does anyone know of any cheaper ones?

How about Low Wray Campsite run by the national trust right on the side of Lake Windermere: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=2233

Not too expensive.

have a look on the reviews at the top of the page, will give you more of an idea

hi V J

the only problem with the national trust site is that you cant book.  My suggestion would be the croft at hawkshead which isnt too far from windermere.

Hi Val,

I started a topic about the neccessity to book in the Lakes.  This lead to some good references (Castelrigg Hall, Park Foot and Limefitt) and I hope to check out at least one of them in a couple of weeks.  I'll have 2 helpers with me (ages 11 and 8) and whilst I'd like to just turn up, the stress factor will soon increase if there are too many 'Full' signs.

In any case, the prices i've seen don't fall much below £20.  This is my first camping season (the first trip was just 2 weeks ago!) so am still finding my camping feet!  The only way I can see of making it cheaper is joining the C&CC but I've still to do the maths!

Cheers Dadsworth

We went away camping with our friends last weekend and they joined C&CC in the hope of possibly finding a cs nearby. Unfortunately no! They have now decided to go to the Forest of Dean for a few days instead. It's a lot closer for them and finding a site wasnt too difficult. Thanks for all your suggestions though.

Hi

I live in Windermere and there aren't many sites in the area. You have to really go further into the Lakes or towards Newby Bridge or Grange-over-Sands for more. There is a nice looking one called Park Cliffe on the road between Newby Bridge and Bowness - I quite fancy an overnight stay there myself! Other than that, there's those mentioned previously - Limefitt Park a few miles out of Windermere, C & CC sites at Kendal and Staveley. I've heard nice reports about the Ashes Lane site at Staveley. The Lake District is a lovely place to come though with loads to do on wet and dry days.
