We've got an unexpected free weekend in a couple of weeks, so we thought we'd hitch up and go away for a couple of nights, but we can't decide where to go.  We want something within about 50 miles of the Yorkshire coast, but we live near Filey, so Scarborough/Filey/Brid are all a bit too close.

We quite fancy a quiet(ish) site with good doggy walks, and perhaps a lake or river (the poochy loves swimming), and maybe a bar on site.  Any ideas?

Thanks

Try the Upper carr Chalet and caravan site between Pickering and malton. Very peaceful, good pub across the road and some good walks. Sorry no river for the dog. This site is spotlessly clean.

We were there for a week 2 wks ago and we really enjoyed are selfs.

I'd reccomend Boroughbridge C&CC site, lovely clean and quiet site. No bar but does have a river.

The Wolds Way Campsite near Malton is an excellent site with fanyastic amenities. There's no bar but a few pubs near by. It is on top of a hill though

Try Willow House Caravan Park (Just 3 mile outside of York)

We have just spent the last week there (see the reviews) and it was great.

There isnt a clubhouse or a shop on site, but there are so many amenities nearby anyway.  I promise you will love it !!

Have a go at Naburn Lock caravan and camping park.

We were there a couple of weekends ago it is fantastic just 3 miles to York you can take a river boat into town and watch the barges and boats pass through the locks 2 min. walk from campsite.

clean facilities and friendly owners and a great pub, good grub 10 minute walk away

We will definitely be going back

My favourite site in North Yorkshire is Rosedale Abbey, stunning views of the moors from a pretty valley, spacious mostly level site adjacent to Rosedale village. Washups which were a bit ancient were being renewed last year so should be OK now. Loads of pubs in vicinity, recommend the Lion Inn up on Blakey Ridge which is about five miles away but well worth the effort.
