We will be leaving Friday night to travel to Modbury in South Devon. We usually leave about midnight with just a couple of short stops enroute. Thinking about getting one of those pop up tents and leaving a little earlier on the Friday and trying to find a camp site half way then setting off again on Saturday morning. We are told not to arrive at site till about 1pm so would you think it would make sense to break the journey or just bite the bullet and get there for about 8am.
Dont know if breaking the journey would cause more hassle, bearing in mind we will be travelling from Northumberland.
If you're told to be there from 1, there may be an underlying reason - the pitch may be booked for the previous night. What sort of time are you thinking of "getting up" on the Friday evening - if this is not too late it may be worth giving the site a ring to see if this is the case. If you arrive at 8am, would you be prepared to leave at 7am or so, so that others who have a similar idea can also be accomodated? Having said that, there may be a place on site where you can leave the car (or van, if you're towing) and just look around the local area or similar.
I appreciate you're probably wanting to beat the traffic - may be worth finding a Travelodge or similar if you don't want the hassle of a pop-up tent. In my opinion, it's better to be safe than sorry - seems to be pushing it a bit to do 400 miles in 8 hours, especially at night.
