Just bought a tent and some gear, I used to camp in my teens and twentys but now with camping phobic wife and two young kids (Emma 5, Kate nearly 2) I am looking for a site, within an hour or so drive from Liverpool to try our luck. In defference to your superior knowledge any ideas. I really want this one to go well so as not to further damage wifes opinion of camping. Thanks.

Try at the search facaility above or other will be along. A couple of people have metnioned sites in N Wales (Conway/Caeravaon). We spent a weekend at Clywd View at rhuddland for one of our first trips. It was OK. Bruv takes his caravan to Willowbank at Southport and they have a tent field. have visited a couple of times but never stayed

thanks for the reply, think a site not too basic, need decent showers and somwhere for the kids to play, we love the Lakes so your one sounds quite good Sharon,

Park Coppice in Coniston is lovely. We've been many times.
I would also recommend Red Bank farm. It's about 50 mins for us from Wigan so not much different for you. Lovely pets corner there with lots of animals for the kids. Cow milking and roaming hens and rabbits. The views are stunning hills one side and morcambe bay the other. It's 2 mins to beach from site. Only downside loos and showers a bit basic, clean though.
