Greetings

We are new to caravanning and I was quite surprised at the cost of staying on campsites with a caravan, especially when you add on the supplementary charges for awnings / electric hook up / dog etc.  It seems you end up paying at least £15 with the average cost been closer to £20 per night  - You can get bed and breakfast for that!

I'm interested in hearing about any cheaper options for caravanning, i.e, farmers fields that allow caravans, cheap campsites etc. For our first caravan trip we have just been to the York cycle rally that was from Friday night until Monday morning for which we paid £26 which was good value, I've noticed that the UKcampsite meets seem to be reduced rates as well which is quite a bargain. So let us know if you've stayed anywhere cheap / cheerful etc. Luxury facilities arent really important to us, a water tap and bit of grass to pitch our caravan on is basically all we need! I've tried trawling the 'net for stuff with not a lot of luck yet, any suggestions gratefully received.

Cheers!

Hi, if you join the caravan club you have access to CL's (certified locations) small 5 van sites, many on farms , pubs , private homes etc and these start at around £3-4 up to £8 some have ehu, toilets etc but some have none at all. But most have a basic standard to keep to, Could be worth a try?

(The caravan and camping club also have their own version CS's)

Theres plenty reasonable priced ones you just have to look for them. Heres a few I am going to or have been to. All inc Ehu 2 adults 1 child for 1 night.

Hatfield Water park, Doncaster £11

Lincoln Lanes, Market Rasen £11

Esholt Sports Club, Shipley £6.50

Old Station, Masham £14.50 (bank Holiday)

The Ranch, Cliffe Selby £12

South Lea Pocklington £12 (lots more round this area)

Black Bull Pickering £14.50

Haven have lots of offers at non peak times.

Royal Oak, Staveley £7.50

I use my virtual brochre to save the best ones in.

We tend to go away most weekend so we try to keep the prices down. We paid £18  per night for a site near to York at Spring Bank and I did feel it was a bit too pricey as the facilities were not that good and not as pretty as described but we still had a great time, we always do.

if you join the caravan & camping club (£33 a year)you get a monthly magazine that gives you all the dates and venues that your local district associations are having meets. They are very cheap, some are only £3 a night. They also have holiday rallies that last for up to a month, and all members are welcome to attend, all over the country.

I joined purely to take advantage of the holiday rally which is being held in july/august at a site I always go to. This site charges £20 a night, and was fully booked for the dates i wanted, but in the field that the club has the rally in you can camp for £6.50 a night.

It was well worth the £33, I saved much more than that on site fees that I would have paid

Hi

Thanks for all the info on cheap sites, I managed to find out about Certified Locations (CL's) that you can use with the Caravanning Club membership and it seems well worth joining to take advantage of the bargain rates and the scenic locations these mini-sites are located in. Great info, thanks! It means we can afford to go away regularly now without breaking the bank £5 per night is a lot more reasonable than £18.50 per night - We are off again this weekend if our CC membership goes through in time!

Ta!
