we are new to camping and want to give it a try this summer, this maybe a silly question but are there ant sites where you hire their tents and they are ready erected for you? we want to see if we like camping before buying all the gear! any suggestions would be great we are looking to camp in northumberland preferably..

there are sites that do this kind of tent - depends on where you live. Trevornick in Cornwall does them. Some Haven sites I think. Try googling 'eurotents'
hi, we are new to camping and had the same problem. We didn't want to go to all the expense of buying a tent and equipment if it wasn't for us. We borrowed a tent from a friend and took the basics and we already had air beds. We had a few problems the first night with noise but the second night was fine and the kids loved the whole experience. It was really nice to have time together as a family with no busy schedule to keep to or modern technology. I will definately be going camping again - next week in fact. Good Luck. There are a few sites that do the Euro tent, we were searching before we borrowed and we found a few in Cornwall and New Forest I think, just can't remember the names. Good Luck
one of the haven sites that has the tents up is perran sands in perranporth near newquay in cornwall we booked for one week july 15 for one week for six of us for £206 for the week including passes now i don t think that is bad it was dearer to take our own tourer.

I've not been, so cannot tell you what it's like - I just found the website when I was looking for a campsite at Beadnell, which is a nice village with a stunning beach.

I know there's more to camping than just the tent - but we weren't sure we were going to be into it last year so bought a 4 person tent in Halfords for £40.
After using it for 2 weeks in the Alps and the odd weekend in this country we sold it (easily) for £35 so in effect renting it for a fiver!
... and we only sold it as we're hooked and got something bigger.
And why not check out 2nd hand gear ? I often see local paper ads for 'complete camping gear' where Dad has obviously gone out and bought the complete kit only to find the family hate it and refuse to go.
