My wonderful little daughter has now decided she wants a (camping) beach holiday in north wales. After having a good look round, iv decided on a site at Black rock sands or Barmouth.Hendre Mynach in Barmouth looks an ideal site but iv been a little put off with some of the reviews. Also not sure that the facilities at the Black rock sands sites are up to scratch, as we will be going last week in july which will be busy.
Any ideas on these sites,or any others around that area?

whilst i cant comment on the facilities (sorry), i can highly recommend black rock. spent many a fantastic weekend there as a kid and would always go back. lots to see and do in the area too, including the very wierd but cute village where 'The Prisoner' was filmed many years ago, Portmeirion :)
Hi- I cant comment on black rock sites but have stayed at the Hendre Mynach site which is very nice and laid out well, but you have to cross a railway line to gain access to the beach which is mainly pebbles, if you walk towards Barmouth ,about 15mins you do come to sandy beaches and all the atractions that it as to offer, but I personaly would recommend Shell Island 4miles north of Barmouth with children its great, check out their web site for info. Hi- belive me everywhere will be busy at that time of year, the site at Barmouth will be full , you might just be able to sqeeze on in a tent, but doughtful, shell island is LARGE, but even they have a limit, sorry to say you may be too late to book, but its worth a phonecall, school holidays ehh! really the worst time to go anywhere, I know and have the t shirt ( which is very old now) good luck. kiev

been to Hendre Mynach twice now - the main block by the camp field is grubby but if you go up the caravan end by the shop the block is 5 star clean & sparkly ( use one block fer piddling in & one fer washing & no.2s ). Because of the sites location it does attract a certain type of person & weekends were very busy. But I must add the owners did evict some noisy campers so they do care & The beach is the best beach I've ever visited & the sunsets are amazing which more than makes up for some of the other campers.
I would visit this site again but never on a b/h & i would try to avoid a sunny w/e - but then I like solitude & peace - unlike my kids
HIya
We went to Tynllwyn camp site, its 2miles out of Twywn and not too far from Barmouth if thats where you want to visit. We were put off Hendre Mynach for the same reasons as you, I did a review on it, as it was lovely and peaceful and good for the kids
