To anyone heading for Orkney I hope you enjoy your stay.  We had 2 nights at Ness Point Site, Stromness and 2 nights at Kirkwall one.  Both are council run and very welcoming.  We hadn't booked either but were bothered about electric so had no problem.

Re things to see IanOrk put a good list on and in order our favourites were

1) Tomb of the Eagles - for being so good

2) The Italian Chapel

3) The Kirbuster Farm Museum - is free, wasn't very busy but so interesting and peaceful.

4) Highland Park Distillery - enjoyed the tour, the whisy and brought some home.

5) Seeing short eared owls having just come off the ferry.

Also visited the Wireless museum in Kirkwall, Scara Brae (interesting but really busy) The Ring of Brodga (on MidSummers Day when it was really windy)

Have to go back to see some of the other Islands.

Had a good evening in THe Albert Hotel on the last night of the festival.

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!

We left Orkney on Midsummers day, but didn't camp! Interestingly, we didn't go to any of your highlights, but I did enjoy Skara Brae and Skaill House. We also went to the Ring of Brodgar, and Brough of Gurness, both of which were fascinating. My personal highlights were, in no particular order,

1) The tomb at Maeshowe - you have to be accompanied by a guide but he was fascinating and gave a real insight into the Neolithic times

2) The Stromness Museum, with excellent information about Scapa Flow, Whale Fishing, the links with the Hudson Bay traders and an enormous display of stuffed local wildlife.

3) The island of Hoy, and specifically the Old Man of Hoy - beautiful!

I would definitely revisit Orkney, as I felt there was so much more I didn't see

I thought the Stromness and Scapa Flow museums were excellent. We didn't get out to any of the other islands though - perhaps next time.
