Hi all.Has anyone been to the Oban area lately, what are the campsites like around Oban , what is it like parking a motorhome  in Oban itself , same applies to the Fort William area.    Thanks

My sister and husband have a motorhome and they've been to Oban/Fort William several times as they love it.  They're members of the C&CC and tend to mostly use their sites - they stayed at this one http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=4833

A word of warning though, friends of ours just came back from a couple of days in Fort William (hotel, not camping) and they said that the midgies and flies were REALLY bad this year.  They had to find a chemist shop to get anti-histimanes as they were so badly bitten

In Fort William you can park for free at Morrisons for 2 hours, it is convenient for the main shopping street and there is no height barrier. There are also several paying carparks, all well signed.
We stayed at the CC Bunree site south of FW, read my review on here, but there are several others.
Midgies were not bad when we were there.
There are several nice sites north of Oban.

We stayed at Oban divers camp site in may this year (review submitted, not published yet) It's about 1.75miles from the town. A nice site but it doesn't allow dogs.

Nice town we only had a day or so to look round as we were getting a ferry to Outer hebrides. We also passed through it last year on the way to Fort William, also a lovely area. As for parking in Oban we parked easily in Tesco's car park, and along the sea front past the ferry terminal (gallanach road) and  at the end of  corran esplanade (ganavan bay, also a small camp site there). We also parked up in the small carpark at McCaigs tower, although the road was a bit narrow and windey. We were in a peugeot boxer van conversion.

Fort William has a large car/coach park just before the town centre were you can park easily, there is a Morrisons carpark further up but it's a bit tight in my view.

There are some nice sites in Bendeloch, just over the Connel Bridge on the road to  Fort William, right near beach, and no probs parking.Ganavan is not really a nice site,You will find that the one at Gallanach will be extremely busy with divers. In Fort william there is a site (think its Ben Nevis site)this one is used by the campers that want to have a climb up the mountain.

We went years ago to a campsite just outside Oban called Gallanachmore which we enjoyed.  Took the ferry over to the island of Kerrera for a lovely days walking. Ganavan sands at the other end of Oban where you can park a campervan and there's an hotel on the beach where you could get a nice meal.

There are several sites around Fort William, but the best are probably Glen Nevis, Linnhe, and the CC site at Bunree.
For Oban, imho the best has to be North Ledaig CC site, which also has a non-members area.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure!
