Yep, went to Clacton about 5 years ago and they said no bbq's and you had to walk miles (well through the site and up a hill) to the picnic site if you wanted to have one!
I always ring and ask anyway, (if its not mentioned on their site) , saves taking it if they dont' (or means we can choose somewhere else!)
We have a stand to put disposable bbqs on, and some sites provide blocks too.
Crossways CC site in Dorset has a no BBQ, Cadac, Cobb rule etc. For the simple fact it is on forestry commision land where open fires are not permitted. I think you will find this is the case on any such site like this

I always ask when I book a pitch - They always say yes as long as they are off the ground BBQ's. Or you can put a couple of bricks or such like underneath a disposable one.
Site owners tend to not like little squares of burnt grass all over the shop.
