Where are you heading on the island? We arrived one year at 7am from Southampton at Cowes and simply parked on the front with a flask. Some of the supermarkets with cafes open at 8.
theres quite a few places with a P where could park where abouts are you going and i will ask my aunt for you she lives there we went a couple of weeks ago you will have a greattime
we are going to east cowes actual site is called Thorness bay ,we seem to remeber that Newport had a place somewhere near the river where we could stop

That brings back memories, stayed there nearly 25 years ago, bet it hasnt changed
There will be loads of places along the way. Newport city centre is only 5 mins from Thorness Bay, we were there last year. It will take you about 30 mins or so to get from Fishbourne to Thorness. There are a lot of places that open for breakfast at about 8am. Not too many that open much before that through, so it may mean killing an hour somewhere.
we have just come back from thorness bay had a lovely time but the beach is awful and smelly but everything else was good dont let the beach put you off the island is only small so sandown beach is only 20 minutes away and well worth it.
------------- ABBEY gail haha

Im on a 6.30 ferry (my choice mind as I will be driving in one shot from the cold north through the night) I will be in similar predicament, Im going just otside of Ryde will look out for the sea front lay byes
Just a quick check - Thorness bay is no where near East Cowes, so please look at your map again! It is near to Cowes, but that is the other side of the river, and will take you miles out of your way.You can cross the river on the floating bridge,(costs a couple of quid) but that will land you in the middle of Cowes.
There is a car park at the ferry terminal when you land at Fishborne, and a pub on the main road about 5 minutes from the ferry - in a place called Wotton, almost next door to a tesco express in case you suddenly realise you have forgotten anything!
Have a good holiday, and say hello to the Island for me
For Thorness bay, follow signs to Newport, and when you get to Newport follow signs for Yarmouth along the A3054. As you are travelling from Newport, you will see a BMW garage. Just after the BMW garage turn right. Keep going straight down there ( there are a couple of roads you have to go over ) and then eventually you will turn left and Thorness bay is just down there. Its pretty well signposted.
Don't go anywhere near East Cowes, its well out of your way, a lot of people get confused about Cowes and East Cowes, they are seperate areas. You may have to kill some time because nothing will really be open until about 8am.
if you are going to park anywhere on the isle of wight make sure you have alot and i mean a lot of change because it stupidly expensive to park anywhere on the island and thats if you can find anywhere at all
------------- just got into the trailer tent scene. hope to have many years of joy from it
