Hi, me and my partner are returning to camping after many years absence. Last time was in Scouts and Guides etc and the odd weekend since. We would like a site in the Lakes only sitpulations are relatively quiet and free showers.
I have looked through the searches and read loads of reviews, I am going crosseyed please advise. Thank you
Jane

One of my favourite sites is Castlerigg Hall near Keswick. This is a relatively quiet site, but withing walking distance to Keswick centre (approx 1/2 hour), spectacular views, as well as clean free showers.
hi lowether caravan park is great river runs through it has shop and all ammienetys very clean cant figure out why the showers have to be free though most sites charge 20p or 50p it would hardly worry you or break the bank lol
Unless you're planning on spending the holiday in the showers I can't see the sense in making free ones a stipulation! It cost us 10p at the weekend, hardly a consideration.

Why free showers? How many showers do you take a day? Most places only charge 20p or 50p a shower, so I wouldn`t have thought them not being free would make a nice site unsuitable for you?
I can understand the showers comments but maybe some sites charge lots? I went to Wales (llangollen) at the wk/end and was not use to paying for the shower. Had to put my clothes back on and go out and pay!
Thought for £5 per adult a night on a basic site, having to pay for showers was a bit unfair.
On the Lake district note - I have camped twice in the Lakes and both times at the Langdlae NT site. Would go back but it does get busy at the wk/ends during the holidays. Lovely walking from the site.
Thanks for all your comments. I would prefer free showers on a matter of principal really. We usually have 2 showers a day (more in this weather) and no £2 a day isnt going to break the bank, but I hate hidden extras and stealth taxes of any kind.
I am very adept at strip washes anyway you don't camp on Ingleborough at Gaping Gill for a week and come away without any skills.
Yay someone else who thinks paying for showers is a bit sneaky!
The other thng that has annoyed me, is so many sites saying they dont accept all male or all female groups and this includes couples?!! Are they allowed to say this? However, so far we have been able to get into sites that have said this.... I can understand the large noisey group thing but we have found its the large family groups that make loads of noise into the early hours.
Enjoy your free showers!

Hopefully we are going next Friday. We havent booked anywhere as a lot state that you can't book in advance for camping, so we will see where we end up.
OH says that if all else fails there is always a B&B
Try The Quiet Site, in the camp site search, lovely site , quiet (as the name suggests !! ), free showers ( I agree, should be in the price you pay, you would not expect to pay extra for every shower you take if paying for any other holidaying accomodation ie self catering, hotel, B&B etc, etc !!!!!! ) AND you can book your pitch. It has all you are asking for.
We have used this sight 4 times and would highly and thoroughly recommend it.
only came back from there yesterday !!!
