Hi we are off to Isle of Wight at the end of August and are looking for a site close to Southampton ferry port (1 hour maximum). We thought of spending a couple of nights on the way there and a night on the way back. It's quite a long drive from Wigan and we don't fancy doing it all in one go.

Any help appreciated. Not too bothered about facilities etc but a village close by would be nice and nice views.

Hi we just spent a long weekend in the new forest not to far from southampton about 15 minute drive on a good day look up forest holidays n a search engine they have about six sites all with varying degrees of facilities they do get busy though and beware the horses do roam free apart from at Holmsley site and they will come into your tent if you allow them just a thought

Nice Caravan Club site called Morn Hill at Winchester. Easy run into Southampton from there.

any of the sites in the New Forest are lovely, they range from nothing but a field in the woods, you ned your own toilet and the warden pops in for an hour in the morning to collect your money (Denny and Matley Wood), Setthorns which is  manned all the time, but you need your own facilities.  Our favourite is Roundhill, toilets and hot water but no showers, huge site - you choose where you pitch, 5 minute drive from Brokenhurst, approx 45 mins  from ferry, although you could do it in less or much more depending on the tme of day, allow plenty of time to get through Lyndhurst as it is a real bottle neck.

Holmesley has toilets, shop, showers.  Ashurst whas toilets and showers and is the closest to the ferry, approx 20-25 minutes.
