Hi all,

my son is posted to RAF Lossiemouth next month and was looking for a good stop off site to camp for the night,  probably just north of Glasgow, close to the motorway.

Any suggetstions please?

thanks

Cant help with campsites on the way up as we used to drive down to Bristol overnight in one go.  We were stationed at Lossie and Kinloss for 7 years. Loved it. Its a stunning part of the world. Cram in as many visits as you can whilst he's up there. There is so much to see.

There are some really good toilets just south of Aviemore at Ralia (about 1 hour  15 mins away from Lossie). They are one of the few open 24hrs once you get north of Glasgow.  They are even heated in midwinter. They have a big spacious carpark so you'll be ok if you are towing.

If you can get up as far as Pitlochry you'll get a chance to really take in some fab scenery. I am sure we used to pass quite a few campsite signs around Blair Atholl and Pitlochry.

I assume that you will be travelling up the A9 through Perth, so the C&CC site at Scone Palace (about an hour north of Glasgow) would be an ideal place to stop if it isn't too far north.

If you are a CC member there  are a few CLs between Glasgow and Perth that would suffice.

I drive up from Worcester, just South of you. It takes me around 6 hours to J13 on the A74(M) thats with a short stop or two to let the dog out also stretch my legs. I find that 6 hours is long enough to be behind the wheel. We use CC Cls for o/night stops so If you are not already a member of either of the clubs then I would seriously consider it if you are going to be visitting Lossie fairly regularly. Once you have driven up there and viewed the scenery then i am willing to bet that you will be doing just that.
