Hi,

We are off to SB in a couple of weeks and just wondered whether we will need rock pegs. We have a diablo 600 and the pegs will be (I think this is right) going into the grassy area that surrounds the gravel and not into the gravel itself.

Also, does anyone know how much it is to hire the astro turf there? (Believe you can hire this to put under your tent so the gravel pitch isnt so rough underfoot?!)

Thanks,

Sian

We came back last sunday. Are you on a serviced pitch or are you in the cornfield? (non hook up). If you are on a servived pitch rock pegs are a must and a axe ar a hammer to put them in with. You can hire them when you get there. We even bent 4 of our rock pegs!!! I'm not sure how delta pegs would work on gravel. You can also hire astroturf to put on top of the gravel.

Serviced pitches have a top surface of pea shingle to a depth of approx two inches. This is on top of earth and stones, which I suppose with the current weather has gone rock hard.

When we were there in May before all the hot weather we were able to push a lot of our pegs in by hand!

Over many years of going to Sandy Balls we have usually found the subsoil to be first rate for awnings and tents but we do carry with us a builder's spike about 12" long which helps to break the top crust. Also pouring some water on the areas where you're going to peg can help to soften the soil.

Give my regards to SB - it's a great place.

Vic

Also I forgot to mention it is advisable to take a peg puller. We could have rented ours out last week the amount of people who used it.

The development is coming on well. The new check in building was under construction, and the new health spa was open. The outer road is almost completed and a new information centre is under way.

Just returned from Sandy balls, ( first time) I was on the service pitch and gravel pegs is a must . I met somebody who was pitching next door to us and did not bring gravel pegs.

He had to buy and hire over 40 pegs at some cost.

Enjoy the site its greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat

Only been in the summer and we hired the rock pegs, and bent some of them. I would imagine this time of year they will go in really easily.
