We are off to this site on Sat 19th August for 4 nights before travelling onto Skegness Water Leisure Park for another 5 nights. Has anyone stayed there recently and if so what was it like and have you any advice/hints/tips for a family. Will anyone be there the same time as us? If so, please do say hello.

Hi jacqui

not been to this site since last year but it is very good.  The owners are very helpful and friendly.  Take the boat from the site to the centre of York. I think it leave site at about 9.30 and return at about 4 pm. (Check times with owner)  Thedre is also a bus right outside the camp site.  A god pub and food in nearby village cann't remember name but its the only one.  You will probably pass it on way to site.

There is an outlet village about five minutes drive from site thats good too.

On arrival the owners will give you loads of info to help you.

Hope this helps and have a great time.

Anything else you might need to knowe let me know.  York is fab.

Happy Caravanning Kathy

Have a good time!

Thanks Kathy and Nora. We are really looking forward to going and have all sorts of days out planned. I want to visit Castle Howard where they filmed Brideshead Revisited, we all want to go to Eden Camp and then of course there is the museum that has that recreated street in it and York Minster. I am not sure we will have time to see all we want to see, so I think we may be visiting York again next year.

We stayed there for a week at the beginning of July, it's great.  As TouringMad says, there's a bus service from the main road, worth using to go into York, or drive to the Park & Ride at the Designer Outlet - its a cheap service & kids travel free!  We did do the riverbus one day - a very relaxing way to travel.

Walking the Walls was fun.  York Minster is breath-taking.  The Railway Museum is HUGE & free.  We so loved this our first visit to York, that we are going back next summer - there's just so much to do.  I'd go again sooner, but its a long drive for us if we can't stay for at least a week.  And we will definitely be staying at Naburn again.

Hi Jacqui,

Naburn Lock is a lovely site, we shall be there at the same time going on the 17th till the 21st. Its our third visit this year and we love it. The owners are really nice and could not be more helpful. Try the riverboat into York the owners will give you a timetable. We are going to try the New big Wheel in York this time if OH is not to chicken to go on it. Have a great time.

Thanks scottish lass,

Oh and I wanted to spend a full week there but the kids wanted to go to Skegness, so we compromised and agreed to spend time in both places, that way everyone is happy. Hence we are at Naburn Loch for 4 nights and Skegness Water Leisure Park for 5.

The kids, our son is 13 and daughter is 10, 11 in September, seemed to think York would be boring for some reason. I think that once they get there they will enjoy it sooo much they will want to return for longer next year, well that`s what I am hoping !

Hi Julie,

if you spot us come over and say hello, we`ll be the ones in the big green XXL with a mini blonde thing cartwheeling outside. My daughter has mastered the art of handstands and cartwheels and does them all the time.................you can`t miss us now!

It will be nice to meet a fellow UKCS memeber as we`ve never found one before.

Fish and chip van eh? That will save OH cooking one night. Dunno what it is about camping, but the sight of the gas cooker acts like a BBQ with him and he HAS to cook! Must be a `man` thang! lol

I agree with all said.  York is fab.  Ive stayed there loads of time its my favourite City.

Don,t forget York Dungeons, Yorvik Centre (long queues) The Shambles. Street entertainment, The Ghost Walk at night from the pub that floods on the embankment is brilliant.

Anymore info needed let me know.

Cheers Kathy

Awwwwwww nicholajayne I can`t believe we will miss each other , talk about so near yet so far . We will be there until Weds then move on to Skegness.

How have you been my fellow frog? I hope you are feeling a bit better? It will take time but we are all still here if you need us.

I am fine and my blonde bombshell is perfecting her cartwheels as we speak. The kids` are at a summer school this week and she came home with a lollipop yesterday, for doing the best cartwheels in her group .

Sarah will cartwheel anywhere she thinks she has space to do one in, which a few weeks ago meant she decided to do in Matalan and poor OH had to pick up a heap of bras she had `removed` from a stand with her feet! Kids eh?

Cheers Kathy,

I may well pick your brains before we go!

We really fancy the Ghost walk as from what we have heard it is great fun. I am doing my sums at the moment, to work out the cheapest way we can see everything we want to and the York Pass seems a good idea. We want to vist Eden camp as well and think that will be a full day out, but think we will do that seperate and not on a York Pass day as it`s only £16.

Does anyone know of any offers on York Passes, or places that do discounts on them?
